“Isn’t it easer to shave after you shower?” Like every morning, I was brushing my teeth as he was shaving. Maybe it wasn’t exactly two weeks, but it was after around that length of time that I got curious. I didn’t have to though, he never said anything about my state of undress. I would excuse my behavior by telling him that taking off my clothes helped me unburden after a long day at school. It was still warm this time of year, but not as warm as it had been during summer. This new morning routine had also renewed my interest in teasing him, so after school I would undress and roam the house in just my underwear. My dad would hand me my towel when I was done showering so I could cover up and we would share the bathroom after. This continued that whole week and the week after that. The excitement I felt knowing how much he could see made my body shiver despite the hot water. Still, I told him to come in.įrom behind the panel I could not see whether he was watching me while he brushed his teeth. The third day of that week, when my dad knocked on the bathroom door, I was not ready to get out. When I finally left him alone so I could get dressed, I could hear the shower being turned on and I knew he’d waited for me to leave. I pretended to ignore how exposed I was and took my toothbrush to brush my teeth.Īfter a while, my dad did the same and we stood side to side, getting ready for the day. I dried off quickly and then wrapped it around my body before I got out. He reached around the panel and gave me my towel. He opened the door slowly while I waited, hidden behind the glass panel. “Are you almost done?” His request came eventually. The following day, I knew to expect him, so I waited for his knock, even when I was actually already done with my shower. I imagined him brushing his teeth or shaving his beard as my naked body squirmed beneath the hot water in the corner of his eyes. It reminded me of our summer and my teasing of him by wearing too few clothes. There was a glass panel that would have protected me from his eyes but it would have still offered a clear-though blurry-silhouette of my completely naked body. You don’t want to lock out potential rescuers should you slip and fall in the shower. My dad had thought me at a young age never to lock yourself in. If he had been a bit more sleepy or distracted he might not have heard the running shower.

He did not come in, but I imagined he could have. “Are you going to be long in there?” He asked. This day, my dad knocked on the door while I was still washing up. I always showered in the mornings before school. The first day after my dad finally got me that new bike, I set my alarm half an hour later, knowing I’d have plenty more time that day. It’s strange how such a small change can have such unforeseen consequences. I knew it would make the commute much faster. I took the bus every morning back then, though I had been requesting a new bicycle for a long time. My summer obsession with my dad seemed forgotten now that I had the attention of my friends and the boys at my school.
